![]() The new in-game overlay is a big change in the way people can access information and services they want to see in a way that’s as close to the game experience as it can be. There has been an in-game overlay in Uplay for a number of years now, and we learned that it’s the best way for players to interact with content it’s directly in-game, it’s accessible with a click at the moment you need it, they don’t have to leave the game and break the immersion, and they also have quick access to key elements they want to see directly. We’ve completely revamped the loyalty system to meet the kind of expectations players have and the kind of games we make today.ĬH: One of the key changes in the experience is a new in-game overlay that will appear across platforms. What we’re making now is different to what we were making 10 years ago, players expect bigger, more packed experiences and want more diversity in the activities and challenges they are given. The big change in that experience is based on what we learned from those rewards, as well as how our games have evolved in that time. The Ubisoft Club reward and loyalty program has always been at the heart of the system, and we’ve been rewarding all of our players with exclusive content for the last 10 years. ![]() SP: Over the years we have tested and implemented various features, sometimes only on single platforms. What were some of the key things that were learned from the launching Uplay that have been integrated into Ubisoft Connect? The idea is that the overlay is a foundation for future features, it’s just the beginning and provides a basis for new and great features we can add to support our players and keep improving and enhancing their experience. It really allows people to stay connected to their Ubisoft friends across platforms and games and help them in this transitional period where friends might be using different hardware. There is also a new activity feed where people can see everything they and their friends have achieved recently, and that’s fully cross-platform too, so those can be seen no matter where a player is accessing it from. We’ve been testing it on mobile for the last two years and we’ve had some great feedback, so we’re happy to bring that across the whole Ubisoft Connect system and to all of our players. It gives personalized tips, stats and videos to help players improve or overcome a difficult challenge or quest, and it’s really based on your personal gameplay stats and playstyle, it’s really helpful. We’re also bringing several new features, including our Smart Intel system, which people may already know from using our AI gaming assistant SAM in our mobile app. It brings that fast access to everything players need to support their gaming. What are the key benefits of the new system for players?ĬH: The new overlay is a really big benefit, the fact that it will be the same across platforms is a key aspect of the experience. The evolution is that it will be a transversal, unified experience for players across all of our games and all platforms, including the existing PC, mobile and web experiences. ![]() Stephanie Perotti: We’re also building on what we learned in creating the Ubisoft Club and Uplay, and more than merging them together this is also an extension of those services. We want to provide a more consistent experience across multiple platforms, so we’ve created this new ecosystem to bring our players together across multiple screens and devices. We sat down with Stephanie Perotti (VP of Online Services) and Charles Huteau (Creative Director on Ubisoft Connect) to talk about the new features, the reason for the change and what players can expect from the new cross-platform hub for player services.Ĭharles Huteau: It’s a new merge between Uplay, our current PC client, and the Ubisoft Club rewards system. An evolution and expansion of the Uplay and Ubisoft Club services that was unveiled today, Ubisoft Connect is the new Ubisoft gaming hub which introduces a host of cross-platform features, such as full cross-progression on highly anticipated titles like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Immortals Fenyx Rising, and Riders Republic, new social events and challenges for PC, console, or streaming devices alike, and much more. A new generation of gaming devices means whole new ways to play, and Ubisoft is ready to level up players’ experience with Ubisoft Connect.

I purposely waited as long as I did to get a pi4 bc I’ve been using them since the original b+ was released. I’m seriously glad I didn’t waste the money to buy an 8gb pi4, which was released just weeks after I finally bought a 4gb It was nothing less than a waste of time last I tried a few months ago, all I got out of it was anger… Constant crashes, dependency hell, and way too many of those crashes required re-imaging the disk bc they crashed so badly. Let us know in the comments if your use case benefits (or suffers!) from the move to 64-bit.Ĭan you install both 64 and 32 bit chromium and just switch between them? I’m sure you probably can, that it’d require extra configuration after the install to work, and I have better things to do with my time than fight a computer to give it basic functionality….Īt this point I’m still not seeing a reason to once again try switching to 64bit. So, head to the downloads page and grab your copy of 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS today. But some use cases will benefit from being able to allocate the entire memory of an 8GB Raspberry Pi 4 from a single process. Very few processes require more memory than this: happily Chromium, which is probably the most memory-intensive application in Raspberry Pi OS, spawns a process per tab. On Raspberry Pi 4, we use the ARM Large Physical Address Extension (LPAE) to access up to 8GB of memory, subject to the constraint that any process is limited to accessing 3GB (we reserve the top 1GB of the virtual address space for the kernel). Beyond that there are some performance benefits intrinsic to the A64 instruction set: today, these are most visible in benchmarks, but the assumption is that these will feed through into real-world application performance in the future.Ī more theoretical concern is that 32-bit pointers only allow you to address 4GB of memory. Compatibility is a key concern: many closed-source applications are only available for arm64, and open-source ones aren’t fully optimised for the armhf port. Using arm6hf (Raspbian’s derivative of armhf with ARMv7-only instructions removed but floating-point instructions retained) provides us with an operating system which will run on every device we have ever manufactured, all the way back to 2011.īut we’ve come to realise that there are reasons to choose a 64-bit operating system over a 32-bit one. ProductĪs you can see from the table above, it is easy to be confused about which products will support which Debian/Raspbian ports. However, we have continued to build our Raspberry Pi OS releases on the 32-bit Raspbian platform, aiming to maximise compatibility between devices and to avoid customer confusion. From that point on, it has been possible to run a full 64-bit operating system on our flagship products, and many third-party operating systems are available. The ARMv8-A architecture, which encompasses the 64-bit AArch64 architecture and associated A64 instruction set, was first introduced into the Raspberry Pi line with Raspberry Pi 3 in 2016.
